This year we are celebrating the 9th International Yoga Day. The National Festivity of the 9th International Day of Yoga 2023 will be led by Vice President of India Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar on 21st June at Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh.

On this occasion, Governor of Madhya Pradesh Shri Mangubhai Chhaganbhai Patel, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union Minister of Ayush and Anchorages, Shipping & Waterways Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, MoS for Ayush Dr. Munjpara Mahendra bhai perform Common Yoga Protocol.

Approximately 15,000 people are expected to join the main event

Also, Other ministers and politicians, sports personalities, and Bollywood celebrities perform yoga at their places.

International yoga day 2023 unique initiatives :

The Ocean Ring of Yoga.

One remarkable aspect of IDY 2023 is the Ocean Ring of Yoga. In collaboration with the Indian Navy and Merchant ships, a demonstration of the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) will be organized at ports and vessels of friendly countries in different oceans. This initiative symbolizes the unity and harmony that yoga fosters, transcending geographical boundaries.

Another noteworthy highlight is the Yoga from the Arctic to Antarctica program. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), in coordination with the Ministry of Ayush, will organize CYP in countries located near the Prime Meridian line and UN member countries.

Yoga sessions will occur even in extreme locations like the North and South Poles, specifically at Himadri—the Indian research base in the Arctic—and Bharati—the Indian research base in Antarctica. This demonstrates the global reach and acceptance of yoga as a holistic practice.

Yoga Bharatmala :

Yoga Bharatmala, a conceptualized initiative, will witness the collective participation of the Indian armed forces, including ITBP, BSF, and BRO. They will form a chain of yoga demonstrations, showcasing their unity and commitment to the practice. Additionally, Yoga Sagarmala will bring yoga to the Indian coastline, emphasizing its relevance and accessibility to all.

Har angan yoga campaign:

At the national level, IDY 2023 aims to achieve “Har Aangan Yoga,” encouraging the observance of yoga at the village level. Prime Minister Modi, in a letter addressed to village Sarpanchs, has encouraged them to celebrate International Yoga Day on 21st June with utmost enthusiasm. The Prime Minister has invited villagers to participate in the observation at nearby Anganwadis, health and wellness centers, and schools. This initiative aims to bring the benefits of yoga to every corner of the country, fostering a sense of unity and well-being among the villagers. By actively joining these local gatherings, individuals can experience the transformative power of yoga and contribute to the collective celebration of International Yoga Day.

Furthermore, approximately 2 lakh Common Service Centers, AYUSH Health and Wellness Centers under the National AYUSH Mission, and AYUSH Gram will actively participate in the International Yoga Day celebrations. A gathering of around 50,000 people will assemble at Amrit Sarovar to perform yoga, creating a vibrant and energetic atmosphere.

Yoga My Pride” on MyGov.in platform:

To enhance the engagement and spirit of IDY 2023, the Ministry of Ayush, in collaboration with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and the Ministry of External Affairs, is hosting a photography contest titled “Yoga My Pride” on MyGov.in platform. Participants from both national and international backgrounds can submit a photograph of themselves performing Yogasanas, accompanied by a suitable caption. Prizes will be awarded in three categories, recognizing the participants’ dedication and creativity.

Y-break @ workspaces program “Yoga in chair” :

This year, the Ministry of Ayush has introduced a new initiative called “Y-break” at workspaces, with the purpose of promoting stress relief, rejuvenation, and enhanced focus among employees. The Y-break @ workspaces program specifically introduces “Yoga in chair,” a form of yoga that can be practiced while sitting in a chair. The Ministry has requested all ministries and departments of the Government of India to encourage their employees to incorporate this practice into their work routine. By engaging in Yoga in a chair, employees can experience the benefits of yoga even within the constraints of their workspace, leading to improved well-being and productivity.
