What is Swachh Survekshan India
Swachh Survekshan is conducted every year in the country to raise awareness about cleanliness. This survey is conducted in various categories such as cities with a population of over 1 lakh, cities with a population of less than 1 lakh, state capitals, clean states, and much more.
Through Swachh Survekshan, the government encourages cities and gram panchayats to meet cleanliness standards. The survey also helps to raise awareness about the importance of cleanliness among citizens.
Swachh Survekshan was conducted first time in 2016. It is conducted by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs Government of India.
Swachh Survekshan 2023 Awards

Madhyapradesh New CM Dr. Mohan Yadav receives this award from President. Indore in Madhya Pradesh has consecutively secured the title of the cleanest city in the country for the seventh time, although this time, Surat city in Gujarat also held its ground at the top spot.

Top 10 Cleanest City of India- Indore and Surat secure All India clean city rank 1, while Navi Mumbai secure rank 3 , Vishakhapatnam rank 4, Bhopal secure rank 5, Vijayawada- rank 6, New-Delhi (NDMC) rank-7, Tirupati- rank 8, Greater Hyderabad-rank 9, Pune -rank 10 in Swachh Survekshan 2023.
Top 3 City in category of population less than 1 lakh – 1. Saswad (city in Pune -MH), 2. Patan (CH), 3. Lonavala are top 3 city in population less than 1 lakh category.

Less than 15000 population- Rank 1 – Barwar (UP), Rank- 2 Chikiti (Odisha), Rank-3 Jiribam (Manipur). Population 15000-25000 Rank-1 Mullanpur Dakha (Punjab), Rank-2 Arang (Chhattisgarh), Rank-3 Mohanpur (Tripura), Rank -4 Gundla Pochampally (Telangana), Rank -5 Budni (MP). Population 25000- 50000 rank 1 Anupshahr (UP), rank-2 Kumhari (CH), rank-3 Golaghat (Assam). Population 50000-1 lac- rank 1- Gajraula (UP), rank-2 Mahasamund (CH), rank-3 Lunglei (Mizoram).
This year witnessed the 8th edition of Swachh Survekshan, with a total of 4,416 cities participating. The survey assesses several parameters, including door-to-door waste collection, waste management, adherence to the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) principle, city cleanliness, and various other factors. This time total 9500 marks in survey.
This year, Swachh Survekshan 2023 shifted its focus to the transformative potential of waste, embracing the “Waste to Wealth” philosophy.
The goal of the ‘Swachh Bharat Mission Urban 2.0’ is to make a garbage – free city, a city completely free of garbage- PM Narendra Modi.
This year, a total of 4,416 ULBs, 88 Ganga towns, and 61 cantonment boards participated in Swachh Survekshan 2023.
